These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the services provided by Hello Family (“Hello Family,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), including our Amazon Alexa skill, our outbound phone companion, our website at hellofamily.ai, and the associated family web application and messaging integrations (together, the “Service”). By creating an account, enabling our Alexa skill, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

Hello Family provides a warm voice companion for older adults and tools for their family to stay connected — sending updates, hearing replies, sharing memories, and delivering gentle spoken messages through an Alexa device or a phone call. Features, plans, and availability may change over time.

2. Eligibility and accounts

  • You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service.
  • You are responsible for the information you provide, for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials, and for all activity under your account.
  • You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account.

3. Setting up a loved one and consent

If you set up the Service for another person (the “loved one”), you represent and warrant that you have the authority and have obtained that person’s informed consent (or have appropriate legal authority on their behalf) to: create their profile; have the companion talk with them; capture and store conversation memories; and share updates and replies with the family members you invite. You are responsible for being transparent with your loved one about how the Service works, including that conversations may be processed and remembered to personalize the experience.

4. Subscriptions, billing, trials, and cancellation

  • Paid plans are billed on a recurring basis (for example, monthly) through our payment processor, Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge the applicable fees and taxes to your payment method until you cancel.
  • Subscriptions are purchased and managed through our website — not within the Alexa skill or by voice. The Alexa skill does not sell products or take payment, and the companion will not ask the loved one to make a purchase.
  • Any free trial converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless you cancel before it ends.
  • You can cancel at any time from your account; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you will retain access until then.
  • Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable and partial periods are not prorated. We may change prices or plans on prospective notice.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful, harmful, deceptive, harassing, or abusive purpose;
  • Send content that is illegal, threatening, defamatory, fraudulent, or that infringes the rights of others;
  • Attempt to use the Service to solicit money, financial-account details, passwords, verification codes, or other sensitive information from a loved one;
  • Impersonate any person, misrepresent your relationship to a loved one, or access a family space you are not authorized to access;
  • Interfere with, disrupt, probe, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems, or circumvent security or usage limits;
  • Reverse engineer, scrape, or use the Service to build a competing product.

6. Your content

You retain ownership of the content you submit — including family updates, photos, voice notes, and recordings (“User Content”). You grant Hello Family a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, transform, and transmit User Content solely to operate and improve the Service (for example, to turn a written update into a spoken message, deliver it, and capture replies). You represent that you have the rights and permissions necessary to submit your User Content and to grant this license, including any consent required from people featured in photos or recordings.

7. Third-party services

The Service works with third-party platforms, including Amazon Alexa and messaging services such as Telegram and WhatsApp, and relies on third-party providers for AI, voice, payments, and hosting. Your use of those platforms is also subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services, and their availability is outside our control.

8. Not a medical, emergency, or monitoring service

Hello Family is a companionship and family-connection product. It is not a medical device, does not provide medical, clinical, mental-health, legal, or financial advice, is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and is not an emergency-response, alarm, or monitoring service. The companion may decline to answer certain questions and will steer health concerns toward family or a qualified professional. Do not rely on the Service for any urgent, safety-critical, or medical need. In an emergency, contact local emergency services immediately.

9. Artificial intelligence

The Service uses artificial intelligence to converse, generate spoken messages, and look up information. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or not suitable for a particular purpose, and may not always reflect real-time facts. You should not rely on AI-generated content as professional advice and should verify anything important.

10. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, text, graphics, and trademarks, is owned by Hello Family or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for its intended personal, family purpose, subject to these Terms. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that messages or conversations will always be delivered, accurate, or timely.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hello Family and its officers, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim, or one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100).

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Hello Family and its affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your User Content, your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party — including any failure to obtain a loved one’s required consent.

14. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or its users. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends; sections that by their nature should survive (including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will survive.

15. Changes to the Service and these Terms

We may modify the Service or these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes to these Terms, we will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, give additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Hello Family is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. To the extent permitted by law, you agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will be resolved on an individual basis, and you and Hello Family will first attempt in good faith to resolve any dispute informally by contacting one another before pursuing formal proceedings. Nothing in these Terms limits any non-waivable rights you have under the law of your place of residence.
